Code Green - Evacuation

Code Green is the phrase used to alert staff to an incident which is leading to the evacuation of staff and patients from a facility.  Events which may lead to a Code Green include, but are not limited to, fire, flood, structural damage/collapse, bomb threat, acts of violence, toxic releases from an internal or an external source, or prolonged utility / power failure.

  • Phase 1: EVACUATE THE IMMEDIATE AREA
    • Remove those in danger
    • Ensure doors are closed  
    • Notify your immediate Supervisor or designate
  • Phase 2: EVACUATE FLOOR
    • Continue to follow direction of your immediate Supervisor or designate 
  • Phase 3: EVACUATE THE BUILDING
    • Evacuate to the Aberhart Centre

All unaffected areas standby to assign a staff member to the evacuating area if requested

Evacuation of patients and staff may escalate rapidly depending on the degree of danger

Use elevators only as directed by fire department

Report all injuries arising from a code green incident to your immediate supervisor or designate
